MannaBrew has its roots in the small South African town of Prieska. Throughout the Northern Cape and Karoo, farmlands have been taken over by thousands of invasive thorn trees known as Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa). While the trees are commonly regarded as a nuisance, at MannaBrew, we have discovered the secret of Mesquite.
The seedpods of these trees are harvested and transformed into the roasted mesquite used to make MannaBrew. We aim to help stop the spread of the invasive Mesquite tree while utilising the seedpods to the fullest.
MannaBrew NZ began around a campfire.
We first discovered MannaBrew when our cousin Frederik visited from South Africa. On a camping trip near Mount Ruapehu, we tried it beside the fire and instantly loved its rich, smooth flavour and the fact that it was naturally caffeine-free.
We knew it was something we wanted to share with New Zealand.
